Kyoto, Japan
Ms. Becker and I were on our own and it felt great! I mean, I loved the tour, but that was a first for me. I usually do all the planning for the trips that I take with Mr. Bisconti and we do our own thing at our own pace. So it was nice to be back in the driver's seat. We figured out how to get from Osaka to Kyoto which was a quick train ride and then we made our way to the hotel. We are at the Kyoto Royal Hotel and Spa which is much nicer than the Osaka hotel! We have a full service spa on our floor! Trouble :-) Anyway, we were tired from a very long day yesterday so we decided to do a nice quiet shopping and walking around day. We were not looking for anything in particular. We happened upon this cool indoor outdoor mall and walked around looking at all the super cool stuff. We did not plan on buying anything right away but we ended up in this really great store that had kimonos!!! We were so excited because we wanted one. Nancy, one of our NCTA tour leaders, told us to look for used kimonos which was a great tip because new ones are a fortune. It took us two hours to pick them out. Sowudi (our sales person) was so sweet and helpful. I wanted the whole nine yards, shoes, hair pieces and I got it all. Ms. Becker got a gorgeous deep purple one with a pink obi and I got a dark plum one with flowers and pattern and a pink obi. We had so much fun in there!! We can't believe we got them.

This is the first one I had on. But of course, I changed my mind when she took out the other one:

This is our very patient sales woman:

While walking around we saw this great grilled food place for dinner, when I looked at it people were eating what looked to be brick oven pizza! Are you kidding me, I thought. We decide that was where we were going for dinner. In the interim, we also found an incredible French bakery and we went in. It smelled like Paris! I kid you not. Well, I saw this rustic chocolate chocolate chip bread and that was that, come to Momma!!! Ms. Becker and I split it. It was ridiculous! I was in Japan eating one of the most delicious things I have ever had from a bakery! We are hooked. That place will be our breakfast spot.
We went to Salvatore's pizza and grill for dinner and they did not disappoint. This was authentic honest to goodness pizza! Crust was thin and yummy, toppings were just the right amount. Delicious. Wow, we laughed. Our first night in Japan and we were eating some very good pizza. We are both seriously missing home! Wei eeine Joey! ( my students will get that reference). We liked it so much we may go back for pasta!! That was our first peaceful and relaxing day in Japan. Tomorrow will be a full day. We are seeing the historic area of Kyoto as a one day tour with a tour company.
Our delicious pizza!

PS Love all the toilet paper in Japan and western toilets:-)
